Explore by Paw - solo traveller and dog

St Dogmaels is an excellent base for single travellers and their dogs. It is a friendly, welcoming village with lots of activities from walking groups, book groups, pub quizes and is known as the Singing Village, where anyone can join in and have a sing in the village choir. All the groups are welcoming to visitors and there are plenty of local dog walkers who will happily chat to you and give you top tips and help. There are 3 dog friendly pubs, a beach that accepts dogs all year round, a dog friendly cafe and weekly food market, where everyone will say hello and chat to you and your pet. The local Pembrokeshire buses also allow dogs, as do the canoe trips and dolphin/wildlife boat watching trips. If you don't have sea legs or paws, there are plenty of paths to walk and historic dog friendly attractions to explore, just ask and we'll help you work out some day trips.

Dog friendly St Dogmaels

St Dogmaels really is heaven for your dog. Not only are all 3 pubs dog friendly, but so is the Café in the Coach House and the Medieval Abbey ruins. There are lovely walks around the vilage through a labyrinth of medieval lanes and along the river's edge or up at the top of the village looking down towards the estuary.

For a longer walk you can visit Cardigan Town or the Wildlife park and Poppit Sands beach. Even the castle in Cilgerran is dog friendly. Be warned, everyone will talk to you in the village as you walk round with your dog. Well actually, everyone will talk to your dog.

For a special treat we sell the locally made 'St Dogmeals' dog biscuits in the B&B which your dog will absolutely love.

Dog photo sessions!
Our neighbour Zoe owner of Gladwin Photography offers personal photo sessions for those wishing to capture a series of special photos of their beloved pet on the beach at Poppit Sands, Abbey grounds or a local location of your choice.

Dog friendly beaches

The large sandy dog friendly beach of Poppit Sands is only a 5 minute drive or 40 minute walk away. Please note a small section of Poppit Sands beach to the left of the Lifeboat station has a ban on it for dogs between May and October, however the larger section still welcomes dogs all year round. This is a wonderful sandy dog friendly beach which we are lucky enough to walk on with our dogs every day. Alternatively a 20 minute drive and you can visit Newport beach, another lovely sandy beach to run on.
